Trois-Rivières, June 15, 2023 – The Trois-Rivières Port Authority (TRPA) held its Annual General Meeting today, highlighting the results for 2022 and the Port’s 140th anniversary. Over the past year, the Port welcomed 242 vessels and reported record cargo traffic of 4.3 million metric tonnes (MMT), bringing net earnings to $4.35 million.
“We would first like to sincerely thank them and underline the exceptional work of our cargo handlers, namely G3 Canada, Groupe Somavrac, Logistec and QSL; the longshoremen and all Port workers; our customers and numerous collaborators; and of course the entire TRPA team. Their daily dedication is what enables the Port to achieve such remarkable results,” said Gaétan Boivin, President and CEO of the Port of Trois-Rivières.
In addition to setting a new record, 2022 was a year of festivities for the Trois-Rivières port community. A variety of activities were offered to the public, not only to allow them to discover the Port, but above all to foster or reinforce pride in this strategic infrastructure that contributes directly to regional and national prosperity.
“From the magnificent Hommage au Saint-Laurent collection to the Open House, from the planting of trees and shrubs to activities dedicated to the port community, the Port and its workers were honoured throughout the year, of which we are very proud,” says Danielle St-Amand, Chair of the Port’s Board of Directors.
On Course for 2030
Deployment of the On Course for 2030 plan also continued into 2022, with a landmark announcement in May formalizing the collaboration agreement signed between the ports of Montreal, Quebec City and Trois-Rivières, aimed at making the St. Lawrence a more efficient, intelligent and sustainable corridor. Since then, tripartite working groups have been formed, and more than 20 people are working on projects in the fields of maritime operations, the environment, innovation, communications and asset management.
Innovation and sustainable development, the cornerstones of the Port’s development, also remained at the heart of our projects and actions. In 2022, the Port of Trois-Rivières contributed to more than 20 research and innovation projects aimed at preparing the port of tomorrow for the benefit of future generations. While some research activities aim to expand the knowledge base in port logistics, others involve testing new technologies in real-life conditions. The sectors of application are varied and range from the digital transformation of port activities to the monitoring of transportation network performance, from the adoption of low-carbon practices to the improvement of environmental quality.
Community investments
The Port of Trois-Rivières is certainly a driving force in our economy, and this is reflected in the support it provides to its community. Through donations, sponsorships and volunteer time, the Port has contributed to the mission of more than 40 non-profit organizations in the region, working in the fields of social, cultural, environmental, educational and economic development.
