Tuesday, June 28, 2016 – After having a great success during the 2015 summer season, the river shuttle between the cities of Bécancour and Trois-Rivières is back for a second year. The Mayor of the City of Bécancour, Jean-Guy Dubois, and Yves Lévesque, Mayor of the City of Trois-Rivières, are inaugurating this new season today.

Many economic development initiatives have been carried out between the two municipalities over the past year, including the signing of an agreement with Innovation Développement Économique de Trois-Rivières, the holding of career fairs and several joint networking activities. The return of the shuttle is in line with the actions undertaken and will improve the tourism and economic development of the two municipalities.

Boaters will be able to board this shuttle at the Sainte-Angèle wharf, or at the Port of Trois-Rivières, at the Croisières AML kiosk. In 2015, more than 1400 visitors used the shuttle, nearly 70% of them on Sundays. In 2016, the crossings will therefore only take place on Sundays from 3 July to 21 August 2016, with three round trips per day.

TARIFICATION

The cost per person will be $5 taxes included for a one-way ticket and $8 taxes included for a round trip. The shuttle will be free for children 6 years old and under. Bicycles will be accepted at no extra cost.

On the Bécancour side, the installation of this shuttle will allow visitors to once again enjoy the “Boucles de Bécancour”, i.e. thematic bike tours from the Sainte-Angèle dock. In addition, for those who will be walking, a tourist bus will be waiting for visitors to take them on a quick tour of the attractions of Becancouais. Three different tours will be available during the summer. This project is being carried out thanks to the Bécancour Aluminerie Fund for Sustainable Communities. The fare will be free for river shuttle passengers and $5 for the curious! A booklet proposing the tours will be available to the public to better serve the population.

In Trois-Rivières, the focus will be on discovering several new features in the downtown area! In particular, you will be able to discover gourmet restaurants, a gourmet drinks shop, a cabaret style theatre and a tea shop. For culture lovers, you will be served, among other things, with the audioguided visit of the Manoir Boucher de Niverville and the exhibitions of the Musée québécois de culture populaire or the Musée militaire! And why not take a short walk on the Trois-Rivières-sur-Saint-Laurent site to get a closer look at the amphitheatre? In short, there is a wide choice for epicureans and lovers of history and culture!

Valuable financial partners have contributed to the implementation of this river shuttle. The cities of Bécancour and Trois-Rivières would like to warmly thank Pierre Paré, owner of the 30-55 Industrial Park and the Port of Trois-Rivières.
