Trois-Rivières, June 14, 2022 – As of June 15, and free of charge until February 2023, the Hommage au Saint-Laurent collection acquired as part of the 140th anniversary of the Port of Trois-Rivières will be on display at the Musée Pierre-Boucher in Trois-Rivières. Likewise, the Port of Trois-Rivières is celebrating its 140th anniversary in 2022.
Art lovers and the general public are also invited to a special meet-and-greet with the artists on June 29, starting at 2:00 pm. The creators of these magnificent paintings, Gérard Boulanger, Yvon Lemieux, Raymond Quenneville, Robert Roy and Yvon St-Aubin, will be on hand to talk with visitors, recount the journey that led to the creation of the collection and answer all questions.
“This is a unique opportunity to learn about the many stories behind the creation of the collection. Each painting is part of a journey of thousands of miles over a period of five years. It will be our pleasure to welcome and share with everyone this magnificent stay on the shores of the St. Lawrence River,” commented the artists.
“We are extremely proud that the collection we acquired in 2019 is now accessible to all. It is of incalculable value and it was a priority for us to ensure that it could be appreciated by as many people as possible,” said Mr. Gaétan Boivin, President and CEO of the Port of Trois-Rivières.
As part of this exhibit, the Port is also very pleased to present a number of historical objects related to these activities. By digging into its archives and thanks to the collaboration of the Musée maritime du Québec and the Musée Pierre-Boucher, visitors will have access to vintage documents that chronicle the Port’s operations in the early 1900s, as well as photographs never before seen by the public, an authentic foghorn, a model boat created by Mr. Paul Jourdain, grandson of Louis-Napoléon Jourdain who built the Port’s first grain elevator, and many other previously unseen objects.
The Hommage au Saint-Laurent collection is composed of 100 works on canvas as well as thirty sketches and stencils. In addition to the collection, the artists have produced a book and a video-documentary that recount the five-year process that took them from Kingston to the Gaspé Peninsula to create the paintings representing the coastal villages and natural environments characteristic of each of the regions they visited. The documentary will be available for viewing during the exhibition at the Museum and the book will also be available for purchase.
