Trois-Rivières, November 10, 2022 – As part of its 140th anniversary celebrations, the Port of Trois-Rivières is proud to announce that more than 140 trees and shrubs were planted throughout the year. The Port carried out these plantings on three of its properties, which border residential sectors and a commercial artery, as part of its continuing efforts to optimize its integration into the surrounding area.
“I’m very pleased to announce that even more than 140 trees and shrubs were planted. Although that number was the initial objective for our 140th anniversary, we decided instead to plant 226 different hardwoods, conifers and shrubs, thanks in part to the participation of Fednav,” said Gaétan Boivin, President and CEO of the Port of Trois-Rivières.
The Port would like to acknowledge Fednav’s financial participation and thank them for their support regarding this impressive planting operation that took place in 2022. Fednav is Canadian international bulk shipping company; it has played a key role in the marine transportation industry for more than 75 years, offering practical and innovative transportation solutions.
“We are proud to have contributed to this tree-planting project at the Port of Trois-Rivières, which is in line with our shared values of corporate social responsibility that aim to leave a better world for future generations,” said Isabelle Brassard, Senior Vice President, Logistics and Sustainable Development at Fednav.
It should also be noted that in 2021, Fednav ranked the Port of Trois-Rivières as fourth among the world’s busiest ports and third in terms of tonnage loaded and unloaded.
As an integral part of the Trois-Rivières landscape for 140 years, the Port of Trois-Rivières and its port community carry out annual initiatives to ensure the harmonization of activities between the industrial and residential sectors, in keeping with its commitment to sustainable development. “These actions help consolidate the foundations of a progressive and participatory approach that responds to current challenges and helps future generations respond to future challenges,” added Mr. Boivin. For example, planting trees and shrubs contributes to stormwater management by increasing infiltration and retention in the soil, reducing heat islands and improving air quality.
