Port of Trois-Rivières Invests $100,000 in Green and Sustainable Technology Research at UQTR

Trois-Rivières, October 8, 2026 – The Port of Trois-Rivières is contributing $100,000 to the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) Foundation to support research activities in green and sustainable technologies at the Pellerin-Marmen Pavilion. This contribution will help advance research related to the health of the St. Lawrence River, environmental protection, energy efficiency, and northern agriculture.

“The green transition is impacting the entire economy of Trois-Rivières, and our port sits at the crossroads of many of its challenges, including water, energy, and freight transportation. We want to be an active participant in this transition rather than simply observe it from a distance. By working with UQTR, we are doing more than providing financial support for research: we are making our expertise, facilities, and operations available to support the innovation that will emerge from the Pavilion. The Port and the Pavilion will become true living laboratories where knowledge is transformed into practical solutions for Mauricie and Quebec,” said Anick Métivier, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Trois-Rivières Port Authority.

The Port of Trois-Rivières is further extending a longstanding relationship of trust with the University.

“For 26 years, the Port has been a valued partner. With this new contribution to the research activities carried out at the Pavillon Pellerin-Marmen, it continues its commitment to advancing knowledge on issues that directly affect the future of our region and Quebec. We commend its long-term vision and renewed confidence,” said Joëlle Gagné, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Fondation de l’UQTR.

“The Pavillon Pellerin-Marmen was designed to bring together research teams, specialized equipment, and partners from a variety of sectors under one roof. Thanks to the Port’s support, we will be able to advance research projects and foster new collaborations among complementary areas of expertise,” explained Sophie Rochefort, Director of the Pavillon Pellerin-Marmen.

This partnership reflects the vision of Trois-Rivières as both a university city and a port city, where knowledge and economic activity strengthen one another for the benefit of the community.

“The Port and UQTR share the river, which is both a workplace for one and a subject of study for the other. Our ties, however, go far beyond that. For years, the Port has welcomed our research teams specializing in port logistics, who are working on the decarburization of its operations. These collaborations demonstrate the strength of a university and port city like Trois-Rivières, where research and the maritime sector join forces to drive innovation and regional development,” said Christian Blanchette, Rector of UQTR.

The official inauguration of the Pavilion will be announced at a later date. A commemorative plaque will be installed to recognize the Port of Trois-Rivières’ commitment to research at UQTR.
